Administrative Assistant – Government and Public Affairs
SALARY RANGE: Grade 15 $30,472 - $38,085 (DOQ)
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
1. Performs all secretarial duties for the Government and Public Affairs Office.
2. Prepares memoranda, letters, press releases, notices, manuals, charts, presentation materials, and other documents, as needed. Also assists in the development of city newsletters and reports.
3. Serves as receptionist, answers telephone and questions, takes messages, opens and distributes mail, schedules appointments, and monitors departmental budget expenditures.
4. Inputs purchasing requisitions, processes requests for payment and invoices, and coordinates department purchasing.
5. Maintains extensive computer and hard copy files for the department.
6. Assists in the development of photography and other content for the city’s website. Interacts with other employees, other departments, vendors, and the general public.
DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. College graduate with a degree in Communications preferred and at least three years diversified office experience utilizing contemporary office computers and software, or a combination of higher education and related work experience; preference given to applicants with demonstrable writing experience.
2. Must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, basic business level language, mathematic skills, mastery of English grammar, and spelling proficiency.
3. Thorough knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, Power Point, Publisher, Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop and similar software programs are highly preferred.
4. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to work effectively with others on Department programs and special activities.
5. Must be extremely detail oriented, self-motivated, have good time management skills, able to work occasional evenings and weekends, able to work under the pressure of deadlines, and have excellent organizational skills;
6. Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality with information to which this position is exposed.

Civil Project Specialist (Engineering Technician)
Engineering Section Public Works Department

SALARY GRADE: 17 ($33,571 - $41,964)
PRIMARY JOB TASKS:
1. Under direction of City Engineer, performs paraprofessional engineering field inspections of both public and private construction projects.
2. Interprets construction plans and inspects and/or tests the construction of streets, sidewalks, drainage, water and sewer lines, and related improvements for conformity to approved plans and code requirements, regulations and procedures.
3. Inspects site disturbance activities for compliance with requirements in
grading permits.
4. Discusses and reviews plans and procedures with contractors and others.
5. Performs intersection turning movement and roadway section counts.
6. Assists surveyors, engineers, other department and general public in

and inquiries.
7. Work is performed in both outdoor and indoor environments and may involve
bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting up to 50 pounds.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
1. Graduation from high school supplemented by college courses in construction technology and three (3) years experience in civil engineering projects.
2. Must possess valid TN driver’s license and may be required to obtain inspector certification.
3. Should have in-depth knowledge of roadway and utility materials and methods of construction and City construction standards.
4. Knowledge of GPS surveying and mapping techniques.
5. Should have some knowledge in the use of surveying and engineering tools.
6. Must have experience with a personal computer (AutoCAD, GIS, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, E-mails, etc.)
7. Prefer experience in roadway and storm drainage construction.
8. Must have ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors and the public.

SUMMER RECREATION POSITIONS
Recreation Leaders and Lifeguards
The City of Oak Ridge is accepting applications for Summer Camp and Swimming Pool positions for 2012. All applicants must be at least age 16 and certified to apply for lifeguard positions and must be at least age 18 and one year of college to apply for summer camp positions. The minimum salary will be at least $8.99 for lifeguards and $8.16 per hour for recreation leaders. All applicants are subject to drug screening, background investigation and driver license check. Applications are available in the Personnel Department in the Municipal Building, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applications received by Friday, March 2, 2012 will be reviewed and considered for summer openings before those received after that date.
SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD
The City of Oak Ridge (cortn.org) is accepting applications for School Crossing Guard. This is an ideal position for students, homemakers and/or retirees to make extra spending money. Primary job responsibility is to be stationed at critical areas in the school vicinity to ensure safe crossing for school children. Applicants must be responsible adults at least age 18 and must be able to arrange their personal schedules so that they can work for one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon on school days. Applicants must be able to work effectively with children and the general public and must be willing to attend the required training before beginning work. Duties are performed in all types of weather conditions. Normal starting salary is $ 8.99 to $ 11.11 per hour. Successful applicants will be subject to background investigation and drug screening.
